“No way! There's a sauna in there?”
The clients contacted us about building a custom sauna in their seldom used lower level bedroom with adjacent full bathroom and shower. The clients did not want to disturb the attractive solid core bedroom door matching other doors in their expansive entertainment area complete with fireplace lounge, bar, wine storage, tiered theater and shuffle board areas.
Our solution was to split the existing bedroom into two equal sized rooms. One side for the sauna and the other side a cooling off room. Party guests get a surprise upon opening the former bedroom door off the entertainment area and finding the sauna hidden within. Sauna bathers can enter the sauna from a separate sauna door through a cedar wall in the cooling room leading to the adjacent shower and bathroom.
There's a special surprise behind that door.
What looks like an inconspicuous bedroom door opens wide into a cedar-lined foyer revealing twin facing cathedral style sauna benches with armrests atop a cedar platform. Looking straight back through the sauna is an illuminated stone wall which climbs from the floor to the ceiling behind a stainless steel sauna heater.
We are extremely pleased with the sauna that John with Warm Timber Saunas built for us...My husband and I are both in construction and were very impressed with the quality craftsmanship that went into our sauna.
